Hallo-freakin’-ween!

I’m doing something different this year and going to upload a few videos talking about specific products like liquid latex, fake skin, etc. and I’m going to upload these first before any tutorials (not including the Candy Queen look). The reason I’m doing this is to give you all a chance to hear about the products I’ll be using in a lot of my videos, hear tips and tricks about them, and also give you a chance to start working with/practicing using the product if you plan on using it for your costume. Another reason is because whenever I use the same product in multiple videos I repeat the same information about it and this takes up valuable time. Halloween videos usually require more detail so the videos are longer so by cutting out the many facts about a certain product (that I will have a specific video on) will cut down on time, and you won’t have to hear me say the same thing in 13 videos. Not only will I be able to fit more in about the actual look, but I’ll still give give tips and tricks about the products I’m using that will be tutorial specific. It’s a win win situation if you ask me.

I’ve already recorded these videos and plan to upload them this week and next. I have a few tutorials prerecorded as well so as soon as I’m done posting the product videos the tutorials will start rolling in every Monday, Wednesday, & Friday up until Halloween. All tutorials will be posted here like regular tutorials with photos and a full list of all the products I used to achieve the look.

I’m not going to post preview/teaser photos of looks on facebook or twitter like I do for some normal looks. Everything is gong to be a secret, but that doesn’t mean I won’t drop hints here or there so keep and eye out for them. ;)

I hope you’re getting as excited for the Halloween tutorials as I am. Now I need to make my creative juices start flowin’ so I can pull some amazing stuff out of my hat again this year.

Ciao-der!

Halloween: Candy Queen

My friends little sister Alex (who is 6) knows who Misty Maven is since she has seen photos of me in drag many times, & has seen me in face/wig probably two or three times when I was working with her sister on projects. She only asked once why I was wearing everything & I replied with “I dress up for fun & can be whatever I want to be as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone else” she said, “okay!” & never asked again. Either way she absolutely loves it & always asks if I have new photos whenever I see her, but what little girl (besides my sister) doesn’t love loads of makeup, glitter, & big hair?

I asked her what she was going to be for Halloween & she quickly jumped up shouting “MISSY MAVEN!” I didn’t correct her on the name but asked why she wanted to be that, & she snapped back with my own saying “I can be whatever I want as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone”. Can’t argue there! But I told her M. is pretty boring so she should be dressed up as something else as Misty, plus what random person is going to know what she’s dressed up as if she just says Misty Maven? After bugging her by asking about things she likes, candy & princesses were at the top of the list so the candy princess was now her costume. I told her sister I would help make her costume & crown, then when I opened up requests for Halloween a few of you asked for something candy related. I merged the two & came up with the look below.

Hey, it’s better than just putting some candy sprinkles on my lips & claiming to be “original & artistic” am I right?
You get a tutorial, a 6 year old girl gets a pretty *sweet* crown made out of candy so it’s win/win, no? ;)

Sparkling Soot

“I look up into the night sky and see a thousand eyes staring back, & all around these golden beacons, I see nothing but black!!”

I love that song! Anyway, it’s been a while since I did a “Josh” look. If you take a look at some of my tutorials you can tell the “Josh” looks apart from the others. They’re something I would wear out and about if I decided I wanted to wear makeup for the night. I get really into the look & they all look similar; dark, super dramatic, & with lots of lash!!

Truly Truly Outrageous!

When I did Truly Outrageous! the bright bold colors put me in the mood for more bright colors. After doing this look I think I have to keep it going since a truly truly truly outrageous is needed. We’ll see about that, but chances are good it’ll happen haha! Not much else to say about the look besides it’s annoyingly bright, and hella easy to replicate. Enjoy!

Neutral-ish-ness.

Lately I’ve been loving bright obnoxious colors. But decided to do something neutral, or close to it. I’ve been getting 893043243 requests for a “Back to School” look, but what makes a look one that is considered back to school all depends on the person wearing it. One person wants neutral, one want to look like a drag queen, and another wants a combination of the two. Labeling a look for back to school and having it be neutral, or having it be crazy bright is saying “only this is acceptable” but not every school has the same rules when it comes to dress code and makeup.
A lot of the videos I already have on my channel can be used as a back to school look, including the few neutral tutorials I already have posted. This is why you won’t ever see “back to school” in the title of my videos (unless I’m joking).

This look can be used for anyone because it’s neutral(ish), but instead of brown I use burgundy. Like any other look you can switch the colors up, switch the color placement, whatever you want! Maybe your eyes are closer together, put the burgundy on the outside corner of your crease. Maybe you think burgundy makes you look “sick”, use a brown, or a green, a blue.. It’s up to you.

Greensmoke

A very quick & simple way to achieve a toned down smoked out look. Normally when I do a smoky eye for myself I extend the color out, I love the drama it creates. But once in a while you want something a little more toned down. This also helps those who want to try smoking out their shadows for the first time but don’t want the “drag queen going to the club” look that I go for, hah! My favorite: Lure.

The only year I pretty much loved almost all the collections MAC put out was in 2006. Sundressing, Lure, Untamed, Nocturnelle, & Jewelescent made it a solid year for them in my book. But, hands down my all time favorite MAC collection as a whole (images, products, packaging) has to be Lure from June 2006. Even the secondary collections Bait & Hooked were amazing! I do have to say that the Heatherette collection comes in a VERY close second, & if they ever did a collaboration with The Blonds, that would probably make it into my top three very easily.

I think the reason I loved Lure was because the whole collection actually screamed “summer” to me. The colors of the products weren’t obnoxiously bright, & different shades of brown weren’t the main focus. The promotional image reminds you of a mermaid fresh out of the water, using a little hint of sex (no shirt, holler!) to pull in the eyes & grab your attention. Last but not least the packaging. It wasn’t tacky & fit the whole vibe of the collection perfectly, not to mention the green holographic foil inside of the product boxes was a nice added detail.

Can we go back to this? Back when a collection didn’t come out every week, the collections that did come out weren’t filled with nothing but products from a collection two seasons ago, or those same products with a new name and maybe a change to the finish. The quality of the products was better (although not as good as they were in 2004 and earlier) & pigmentation was comparable to lines like Make Up For Ever, & Illamasqua, etc.. Please?

So with that all out of the way, what was/is your favorite collection from MAC, & why? Let me know in the comments below! Even if you’ve never shopped at MAC, tell me about a collection from another brand, & why you love it!

I also added images for the collections I mentioned above: Read more

Hi, how are you?

Would you like to play a game? I guess this can be considered a game of chance, so let’s play.
I have a box full of brand new products that I either bought multiples of and never even used 1 so extras aren’t needed, something I bought/received and already have with no need for another, and stuff I just don’t want. I randomly give stuff to family and friends, so I figured I would start throwing some this way (to subscribers) as well! I’m going to randomly do give-aways, but as the prize value goes up, the contest will be harder. Luckily this time, it’s VERY easy! ;)

Truly Outrageous!

I recorded a tutorial, and while editing I realized it looked almost identical to my Emerald Dragon look, instead of posting it and saying “this is the same thing with dupes” I decided to just record something new. While recording the colors reminded me of something stereotypically girlie because of the colors I was using. It also started to remind me of a long Jem shirt my sister wore pretty much every day during the 80’s. Sometimes it was a shirt, sometimes she would belt it into a dress, other times it was tied in a knot on the side… Typical 80’s! So that’s where the name came from, since Jem really is truly outrageous! Maybe I’ll do a look inspired by Pizzazz next…. You never know!
